Program Guidelines

To ensure a safe, positive experience for both our audience and Bella, our non-releasable ambassador barn owl, we kindly ask all program hosts and attendees to follow the guidelines below. These rules help protect Bella’s wellbeing and allow her to remain calm and comfortable during educational presentations.

Respectful Distance

  • Please do not touch, approach, or reach toward Bella.

  • Remain seated during the program unless instructed otherwise, as sudden movement can startle her.

Photography & Noise

  • Flash photography is not permitted, as bright flashes can frighten owls.

  • Please keep voices low and avoid loud or sudden noises.

Air Quality & Safety

  • To protect Bella’s sensitive respiratory system, no chemicals, hand sanitizers, cleaning sprays, candles, or open flames may be used in the program space before or during the presentation.

  • This includes scented sprays, diffusers, or recently cleaned areas using harsh products.

Other Animals

  • No pets or other animals may be present during the program. Even calm domestic animals can create stressful or unsafe conditions for a bird of prey.

Children & Groups

  • Children must be supervised at all times and encouraged to use quiet voices and calm movements.

Clear Space

  • Please keep the area around Bella or her travel crate clear to provide her with a comfortable safety buffer.

Outdoor Program Policy

  • Outdoor programs must be pre-approved.

  • We may need to cancel or reschedule outdoor programs due to unsafe weather conditions (rain, extreme temperatures, high winds). This is for the safety of all participants, not just because of Bella. Bella can only appear outdoors when the environment is safe and stable.
